More about me
Retired twice. Second time around will be the last. Worked since I was 19. Police Officer, Correctional Officer, Provincial Bailiif, Safety Manager. All very satisfactory work. Love diving and took it up in 1998 and as they say the rest is history. Have done over 35 cruises since 1977. A great way to travel and see the world and get in diving as well.

Don Wallar
M.Sc. (Biochem), Divemaster

Places I have been
Georgian Bay, Muskoka, Florida Keys, South Africa, Red Sea, Grand Cayman, Curacao

Favourite Dive
My favourite fresh water dive is the Arabia and Forest City. Best salt water dives have been in the Caribbean (the wall of the Cayman Trench and also in Curacao). I also did a research paper many years ago where we did a Hyperbaric Chamber dive to the equivalent of 190 ft. of salt water to test the effects of inert gas narcosis on sport divers. Ask me about it sometime!

Favourite Course I took
The most challenging course I took was my Rescue Diver because it really pushes you to discover new levels of confidence. My DM course at S2K was equally amazing, partly due to my awesome Instructor (hint: she loves to do handstands).

Favourite Course I teach
I love to do Refresher courses, Intro to Scuba, and Snorkelling as well. But I mostly assist on the Open Water Course and I find that to be thoroughly rewarding.

Worst dive
Innerkip Quarry looking for a mine shaft in the murk and muck…yuck.

More about me
I have been a sport diver for many years and lived several places in the world. As a scientist, I have always had an interest in the scientific aspects of diving and I love to discuss some of the finer points of the science of diving given the chance. More recently I decided to become a Divemaster, largely because I truly enjoy seeing people gain in confidence and overcome their challenges as they learn about this wonderful sport of scuba diving. I really believe in the PADI Professional’s Creed which states that as a Divemaster I have the opportunity to see: fear changed to courage, faintheartedness converted into accomplishment, timidiy transformed into confidence, and anticipation turned into passion. As a Divemaster I can: open hearts and minds to the hidden beauty of nature’s creation and our obligation to protect it, foster self-esteem in another person, teach the value of character and integrity, and transform another human being and change a life for the better and forever. My personal motto is: Since 75% of God’s creation is underwater, where do you think we should be spending our time?

More about me
“Good divers are always learning”, I believe this is true because of the rapid evolution of dive equipment, better training and safet practices.

Leo Rubino
IDC Staff Instructor

Places I have been
All over the Caribbean, and Europe

Favourite Dive
Cozumel Mexico

Favourite Course I took
Rescue Diver ,Probably the most interesting and the most confidence building course it really elevetaes to a new level

Favourite Course I teach
There are many but PPB has to be the most fun ,it has a combination of class and pool ,I love seeing divers expressions once the realization hits that they don’t need as much weight as they thought.

Worst dive
There are no bad dives , how ever there is bad weather conditions , rain and waves and a small boat with about 8 divers !Night dive in Gerogian bay about 1hour from shore, it actually took us 2.5 hours to get back, the dive was great but coming back we got hit with terential rain and big waves , not fun .. A few of the divers spent most of the time at the side of the boat , relieving their stomach.

More about me
My family Emigrated to Canada when I was 11 tears of age , since we have relatives in Toronto and New Jersey , thank fully my parents decided on Toronto rather than The U.S. I Have been diving since 1992 originally I took the open water diving course with the Wet shop ( now known as S2K) and been diving ever since, did my rescue course around 2006 and worked my way to my curent status as IDC STAFF , EFR Instructor and DAN Instructor. my full time professional field is in the automotive industry always liked the flexibility of the industry along with its changing chalenges and of course the its a people bussness and as diving thats what makes it worthwhile. Favourite Dive
I love to dive around Curacao. Great diving right from shore. Many great memories diving with my family and friends in Curacao.

Favourite Course I took
Underwater Navigation. My buddy and I completed a random pattern underwater in very poor visibility and we nailed it. Great feeling of accomplishment!

Favourite Course I teach
I love teaching the Dive Master Course. It’s a challenging course to take and teach. I find it very rewarding as I always learn something new from the DM candidates.

Worst dive
Big Bay Point, Lake Simcoe in late October. It was a training dive with my son. We did not have appropriate exposure gear so we got very very cold. The dive ended early, it’s not fun being that cold. We went to our local dive shop and got the appropriate cold water gear. Did 2 dives the next day, same spot, no problem, lesson learned. My first dive instructor liked to quote Vernon Sanders Law “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.”

More about me
Scuba diving is a passion in our family. My 5 grown children are all experienced and avid divers. The majority of our vacations and travel destinations are dive based. It’s usually eat, sleep, dive, repeat. We travel together a lot and I’m fortunate to be able enjoy the sport with my children.

Indonesia because of the clown fish and the dog puffer fish and the scorpion fish….so much colour. So amazing.

Favourite Course I took
Rescue course and DM course because I learned so much and were such great instructors.

Favourite Course I teach
OW and EFR so far

Worst dive
Porto Moreles when my dive buddy didn’t jump off the boat with crazy current and then I went with another group to wait for him for the shark dive. Not happy with him for not sticking together. We had to call the dive and then re-enter as a 3 buddy pair with a cranky group.

More about me
I have been diving since 2010 and it is definitely a passion of mine. I love sports and have been active all my life. I was fortunate to compete in two Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988 in the sport of Canoeing. During my athletic career, I travelled all over the world. Now, I continue to travel for my leisure pursuits including scuba diving and cycling. In order to pay for all these trips, I have to work as a Physiotherapist!

Since 2004 most of our trips have been either Dive Travel Trips or Travel Trips with a little diving! My favorite thing to do is to teach diving at both the beginner and more advanced level and have been proud to be affiliated with SCUBA2000 as a DiveMaster and Instructor since 2010.

Underwater I enjoy underwater photography and videography. I also love to fly. II have been told I love adventure. I am not sure about that, I think I just enjoy fun. I love to relax reading a book in my garden or cooking something tasty to savour with my partner.

Favourite Dive
The Mangroves off of Caye Caulker in Belize. Lots of life, and really cool diving atmosphere. Forest City and Arabia in Tobermory and the SS Stavronikita in Barbados.

Favourite Course I took
Rescue. It’s the first foray into professional diving. It changes your diving outlook from watching out for yourself to watching out for others.

Favourite Course I teach
Advanced. It’s great to see divers move from having a basic knowledge of scuba to learning more advanced diving techniques that will help them grow as a diver.

Worst dive
Only one bad dive, and that is simply because I was terribly seasick halfway through in rough seas.

More about me
When I am not diving (i.e. work days), I work in advertising as a Strategic Planner. Diving is a passion of mine, and I consider myself lucky to be able to teach it to new people!
