The Future of Diving is Here

Meet Our Team

LIAM BROWN
MSDT 2006

Places I have been
Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Cozumel, Jamaica, Turks & Caicos

Favourite Dive
The Mangroves off of Caye Caulker in Belize. Lots of life, and really cool diving atmosphere. Forest City and Arabia in Tobermory and the SS Stavronikita in Barbados.

Favourite Course I took
Rescue. It’s the first foray into professional diving. It changes your diving outlook from watching out for yourself to watching out for others.

Favourite Course I teach
Advanced. It’s great to see divers move from having a basic knowledge of scuba to learning more advanced diving techniques that will help them grow as a diver.

Worst dive
Only one bad dive, and that is simply because I was terribly seasick halfway through in rough seas.

More about me
When I am not diving (i.e. work days), I work in advertising as a Strategic Planner. Diving is a passion of mine, and I consider myself lucky to be able to teach it to new people!

NORM CERNY
PMP MSDT 2006

Places I have been
Hawaii, California, Australia, Gulf of St. Lawrence, New England, all over Ontario and Quebec, throughout the Caribbean

Favourite Dive
Big Island, Hawaii because of the unique species of fish that I can see nowhere else in the world

Favourite Course I took
Open Water; because I had incredible instructors who inspired me to become an instructor

Favourite Course I teach
Open Water, because it’s the most important scuba course, and I love working with new students

Worst dive
Welland Scuba Park in March. 2 degrees Celsius, 2 inches of visibility, smelled like…..

More about me
I love diving locally. I own my gear and drysuit, so diving within driving distance of Toronto allows me to dive often for low cost at any time of the year. Salt water diving in Quebec and New England make for awesome weekend trips, as do trips to Kingston and Tobermory. Les Escoumins in Quebec is as full of life as any reef you’ll find in the Caribbean, but you can drive there! I also love diving warm, tropical waters and I really fell in love with the Big Island of Hawaii. I’ve been lucky enough to meet and dive with Jeffrey Gallant (GEERG) and Jean-Michel Cousteau. When I’m not diving or teaching diving you’ll find me on my boat or in a canoe somewhere in central or northern Ontario.

Favourite Dive
Cozumel, the swim throughs and drift dives are second to none.

Favourite Course I took
Divemaster. Understanding the PADI way of teaching and giving back to others was eyeopening and satisfying

Favourite Course I teach
Advanced. I love the sampling of the dives and working with divers who are eager to explore something new.

Worst dive
Fort Lauderdale, broken compass, Jellyfish, long swim to boat.

More about me
Scuba diving is the only thing that I knew that I would love before I did it. I now dive with my two sons and have had some great experiences all around the world. I teach chemistry at Ryerson during the day but love to spend free time underwater and travelling. I love working with new divers to experience the joy of diving the first time.

NANACY OLMSTED
DC, MSC, BHSc(PT), BA-BPHE, 2010

Places I have been
Indonesia, Cozumel, Roatan, Key Largo

Favourite Dive
Indonesia because of the clown fish and the dog puffer fish and the scorpion fish….so much colour. So amazing.

Favourite Course I took
Rescue course and DM course because I learned so much and were such great instructors.

Favourite Course I teach
OW and EFR so far

Worst dive
Porto Moreles when my dive buddy didn’t jump off the boat with crazy current and then I went with another group to wait for him for the shark dive. Not happy with him for not sticking together. We had to call the dive and then re-enter as a 3 buddy pair with a cranky group.

More about me
I have been diving since 2010 and it is definitely a passion of mine. I love sports and have been active all my life. I was fortunate to compete in two Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988 in the sport of Canoeing. During my athletic career, I travelled all over the world. Now, I continue to travel for my leisure pursuits including scuba diving and cycling. In order to pay for all these trips, I have to work as a Physiotherapist!

DAVID RACIOPPA
DC Staff Instructor 2000

Places I have been
Aruba Antigua Barbados Cozumel Cuba Curacao Grenada Key Largo Lake Ont Jamaica Mediterranean Niagara R Ohio Red Sea St Lucia St Martin San Andres Simcoe TBay Ont Tobermory SS Marie

Favourite Dive
I love to dive around Curacao. Great diving right from shore. Many great memories diving with my family and friends in Curacao.

Favourite Course I took
Underwater Navigation. My buddy and I completed a random pattern underwater in very poor visibility and we nailed it. Great feeling of accomplishment!

Favourite Course I teach
I love teaching the Dive Master Course. It’s a challenging course to take and teach. I find it very rewarding as I always learn something new from the DM candidates.

Worst dive
Big Bay Point, Lake Simcoe in late October. It was a training dive with my son. We did not have appropriate exposure gear so we got very very cold. The dive ended early, it’s not fun being that cold. We went to our local dive shop and got the appropriate cold water gear. Did 2 dives the next day, same spot, no problem, lesson learned. My first dive instructor liked to quote Vernon Sanders Law “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.”

More about me
Scuba diving is a passion in our family. My 5 grown children are all experienced and avid divers. The majority of our vacations and travel destinations are dive based. It’s usually eat, sleep, dive, repeat. We travel together a lot and I’m fortunate to be able enjoy the sport with my children.

Favourite Dive
Cozumel Mexico

Favourite Course I took
Rescue Diver ,Probably the most interesting and the most confidence building course it really elevetaes to a new level

Favourite Course I teach
There are many but PPB has to be the most fun ,it has a combination of class and pool ,I love seeing divers expressions once the realization hits that they don’t need as much weight as they thought.

Worst dive
There are no bad dives , how ever there is bad weather conditions , rain and waves and a small boat with about 8 divers !Night dive in Gerogian bay about 1hour from shore, it actually took us 2.5 hours to get back, the dive was great but coming back we got hit with terential rain and big waves , not fun .. A few of the divers spent most of the time at the side of the boat , relieving their stomach.
