What you are going to learn

You will learn safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks. How to survey and map a wreck, then how to use penetration lines and reels to guide exploration. Also, you will learn important techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.

Process

Typically we will run the course in two sections. The first being a three hour academic classroom session, followed by four Open Water dives over two days. These dives are usually done in the clear waters of Tobermory that has plenty of shipwrecks to explore.

Prerequisites:

  • Hold an Advanced Open Water Diver certification from PADI or equivalent from another recognized scuba diver training organization.
  • Be 15 years or older.

Equipment:

  • Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a dive light, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation, and a line and reel for practicing wreck penetration.
